My students need hands-on materials to coordinate with our problem based learning units on the brain, the five senses, germs, the environment. Students will use these items to have deeper learning.
My students are amazing. Each one has ideas and information that he or she wants to share with our class. My students are full of questions and concerns for our changing world. In my class we explore questions that are relevant to our lives. We conduct math and science problems that mean something to us. We apply daily life to our studies and try to find deeper learning.
My students come from different backgrounds; they value different things.
My students are thinkers and explorers. They question things and want to know how and why things work the way they do. From my youngest students (5) to my oldest students (12) they share a common hunger for knowledge and exploration of their world. I teach special needs students, autistic students, out of the box thinkers, underprivileged students, deaf students, ESOL students and academically talents students. We are a wonderful blend of society that truly comes together when we work on a problem and find solutions together.
My Project
Students will use the eye, ear, skin, and brain models to gain a deeper understanding of how these parts work in conjunction with one another. This goes along with our problem based learning unit that gives our students an opportunity to create their own model of the brain and spinal cord and create a Public Service Announcement letting others know how they can protect their brain and spinal cord with the proper forms of protective gear and safety rules.
Hands-on learning will help my students to delve into these topics with more then pencil and paper.
The Magic School bus kit on germs and going green will help us to do just that!
