Hands-On Learning Fun In Kindergarten

My students need alphabet beginning sound boxes and alphabet beginning sounds games to help enrich their Literacy experience in school.

My Students

My students need to be introduced to lots of hands on activities and games. My students learn best when they are actively engaged in their own learning. When students are playing games and having fun, they aren't aware they are learning. My students love and look forward to our daily center time.

I want to provide a literacy rich, hands-on learning environment for my students.

I have 18 high energy and enthusiastic 5-6 year old students. We do lots of hands on activities and games to make the learning more engaging for all the students. My students manipulate letters, letter sounds, and letters to build words. This will help develop early-literacy skills. We spend lots of time working on pre-emergent literacy skills to help their reading and writing skills to improve. My students learn best with hands-on activities and games. They have a very short attention span so instruction needs to be in the form of games. They work on their collaboration skills daily. These are skills that they will use for the remainder of their schooling experience as well as in the "real" world. They are able to problem solve basic problems with each other.

My Project

My students will use these games daily during our Literacy Center time. My students will be able to manipulate and work with letters and sounds each day to help them develop more solid reading and writing skills. My students will start by solidifying their beginning sound awareness. We will then move to ending sound and medial sounds. This will help them with reading and writing. They will be able to sound out words while reading and writing. They will begin to notice patterns in words which will help them to read "unknown" words. The hands-on practice that these games provide will ensure all students are actively engaged in their learning. My students love to work with each other and when the learning environment is fun all students are able to succeed. My students start from lots of different background but by the end of the year they are all readers and writers.

These activities and games will help make the learning engaging for all of my students.

Using these different games ensures that all students are able to fully participate in their learning. These games can be differentiated so that all of the students are working on the skills and concepts they need in order to succeed. Some students will continue to work on beginning sounds where other students will be ready to build and write their own words. I want the classroom to be literacy rich for all students.
