Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Coming back from the pandemic and virtual learning has been hard for everyone. Students not only lost a year of socialization, but many also fell behind in vital math skills. Many of my students struggle not only with new content but also with focusing in class.
Having hands-on activities to practice skills like fractions, percents, and shapes will help these students regain focus and enjoy learning in school again.
I remember using geoboards myself in school and they made the content infinitely more interesting, as we could create our own shapes and see how the formulas we learned applied even across different sizes of one type of shape. Additionally, having these fraction and percent tiles will help students who need remediation gain a stronger understanding of how fractions work as well as how they relate to decimals and percents, which are vital in real life as well.
