My students need magnetic letters and calming toys in order to facilitate hands-on learning and social-emotional growth! And some snacks to keep their stomachs full :)
My students are creative, curious, passionate, sensitive, and unique. Hailing from low-income communities in Tulsa, Oklahoma, my students are also resilient and brave, having already overcome more obstacles than many adults can imagine. Because of the poverty in which they live, and because of their disabilities (*exceptionalities), their strengths are often ignored, overshadowed by their perceived deficits.
This year, we're hoping to change that, to create a strengths-based, high-expectations, goal-oriented classroom in which all students are accepted and valued for who they are, and in which all students are scholars.
My Project
Magnetic letters, magic sand, and building toys will facilitate hands-on learning, calmness in the classroom, and healthy social skills. By providing them with an outlet for their energy and curiosity, students are able to focus on their academics when it's time for them to learn. And snacks keep them focused, motivated, and productive as well!
My students, diagnosed with Emotional Disorders, often struggle to develop and maintain healthy relationships.
In our classroom, we use toys as a means of facilitating play therapy and building social-emotional skills. These toys will allow students to work together, practice teamwork, and experience joy in their school days!
