Hands-on Learners

Help me give my students hands-on tools such as legos and magnatiles to help stimulate their sensory needs, use their imaginations, and keep them engaged in learning.

My Students

I am a teacher of 25 awesome, hard working, and creative second graders. My students come from various backgrounds as well as have various social and emotional needs. They have a lot of energy and are eager to learn.

They are motivated by engaging hands on activities in the classroom while still requiring structure throughout the day to help support those emotional needs.

They require hands on opportunities which engage them and at the same time keep their senses stimulated.

My Project

My students require active engagement in their learning. They also require stimulation and sensory tools to keep their bodies calm and focused on learning. The legos will be used during math to build number problems, visually show even/odd numbers, use the number of studs (the small raised circles) on each brick as markers while you count by 1, 2, 4, 6, and make place value towers. The magnatiles will be used to teach math concepts of geometry. Students will sort shapes, evaluate their properties (sides, angles, corners) and use their creativity to build with the shapes noticing how they fit together.

Lastly, many of my students need sensory in order to focus in the classroom.

The stress balls with words of encouragement will help those students who need to relieve some extra energy or need a reminder that they can do it!
