Hands-on Language Learning

My Project

Hands-on learning paired with literacy is the main goal of this project. I work directly with students who are speech and language delayed, ages 3 to 10. The materials from this project will allow me to read stories and follow up with hands-on learning.

I hope to help develop a love of books and stories with my students.

The books selected for this project will allow us to do shared reading, chosen based on past interest from students in these characters. The Magna-Tile sets and figurines will allow the students to use their imagination and build scenes to act out the stories. Using familiar characters, such as Bluey and Peppa Pig also pulls in my students’ interest. We can also do extension activities to further learn about different themes, focusing on increasing vocabulary and sentence description.

All of the materials requested for this project will help my students build speech and language skills, which include talking, social skills, reading, and writing. Some of these materials, such as the sensory balls, letter tiles, and talking flash cards were selected to help keep students engaged and attentive.
