This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My kindergarten students are inquisitive, creative and adventurous. A lot of them have do not have a lot of background knowledge in the standards I teach. And some of them have a weak vocabulary with lack of parental support at home. With all this going on in their little lives they are still inquisitive about learning letter and letter sounds, sight words, syllables, ten frames and number bonds. These hands on materials in Reading and Math will help them master the standards they are required to learn in Kindergarten.
My Project
Majority of my students come from low income families and parent involvement is minimum. Some of my parents desire to help their children but do not have the knowledge of how to.Therefore, homework is rarely turned in. With these hands on materials, I can invite my parents in during center time to watch the standards being modeled with hands on materials. As a result the parents as well the child will get a better understanding of the standard being taught and the homework. Results will be homework being turned in on a weekly basis and all of my students mastering their kindergarten Reading and Math standards.
