My Students
My students come to school every day with a desire to learn despite their home environment. My school is a Title 1 campus which means a large percentage of students receive free lunch. Some families receive a backpack full of food to take home for the weekends. Even though they face many economic and emotional challenges, my students want and need to be successful! For many of my students, coming to school is the best part of their day. My students deserve to have access to materials that will foster their love of learning and fun!
My Project
After dealing with the tradegy of Hurricane Harvey, my students need enjoyable learning experiences. For many students, the traditional paper and pencil method of learning is simply ineffective. My students need mathematics, reading and writing manipulatives to explore a hands-on approach to learning. These manipulatives, such as Pick-A-Problem Math Warm Ups, Decomposing Numbers Game and Math Strategies Practice Journals will be used in centers where my students can practice mastering essential objectives such as regrouping, place value, solving word problems. My students will use the Fishing for Sight Words, Reading Comprehension Practice Cards and Giant Magnetic Letters for reading sight words, letter & sound recognition, sentence writing and spelling. They will also be used during small group instruction to help struggling students close learning gaps. My students need hands-on manipulatives not only to achieve academic goals, but to experience the true joy of learning!
