This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My 7th graders are starting a medieval history unit to learn about the Silk Road and its many cultures. It can be challenging to keep their attention about something that seems faraway from them in time and place.

A ceramics project is how we will turn our abstract research into hands on learning that stays with them in the decades to come.

It's also a way for them to experience using clay which helps their coordination and can be a stress relief in the middle of middle school. Using this around Chinese New Year will also bring in cultural learning about non-Western cultures.

The final product will be our March exhibition where they will proudly show off their creation and explain its significance in the medieval world.
