My Project
This project incorporates 3 learning experiences designed to engage students' creative expression, promote social-emotional learning, and explore place-based learning. Students will embark on a journey of self-expression through canvas painting, split self-portraits, and retelling of Hawaiian legends through Palauan Storyboards. Additionally, they will create their own calming bottles with clear glue and sequins to support emotional regulation, and participate in a hands-on exploration of traditional Hawaiian plant dyes.
This project aims to nurture well-rounded individuals who are both creative and culturally aware.
By creating art using a variety of media, students will develop their artistic skills and express their individuality. The calming bottles will provide a tangible tool for self-soothing and mindfulness, fostering a positive classroom environment. Finally, the t-shirt dyeing activity, using natural pigments from Hawaiian plants, will provide a rich, experiential lesson in the traditional uses of natural resources, connecting students to the history and culture of their environment.
