My students need the Hands-On Learning Science Tubs because it will allow them to be kinesthetic learners. Hands-on learning provides educators with an opportunity to enrich the minds of their students in new and engaging ways.
My students come from a small, tight knit, school community in a rural area of Northern, Virginia. We have students from various different economic backgrounds with over 60% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in our county. Students speak mainly two languages including English and Spanish. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics as well. My students come to school each day excited to learn. From the minute they walk in my classroom, I focus on their flourishing their growth and potential as much as I can. By doing this in a creative, hands-on, and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire my students to be life long lovers of learning.
My Project
There is no substitute for activities that require kids to use their hands as well as their minds. Students are more engaged and focused in science class when they're working on hands-on projects—even those who fidget during large-group lessons. I have found that the best way to engage kids' brains is by having them move their hands.
I feel the science kits will help students understand the concepts they are learning about better because they will actually be able to experience these concepts rather than just reading about them.
The science kits will also enable students to retain the information they are learning better because they will have the hands-on experience to look back on. My hope is to bring science alive for my students and get them interested in possibly continuing their love for science into their professional careers since so much of our world revolves around science.
