Hands-On Experiences and Models!

My students need concrete models to visualize biochemistry concepts. They would benefit from using these models to understand how macromolecules are used in living things. Blood pressure sets will let them see homeostasis play out.

My Students

My students are curious learners who do not have access to scientific learning opportunities in their homes or communities. They are eager to do hands-on projects that allow them to experience the concepts they are learning about instead of just reading about them. Many of my students have below grade-level reading skills, and therefore would benefit greatly from hands-on learning experiences that demonstrate how the science they are learning about is all connected in the real world.

Our school does not receive a science budget, so I purchase any and all lab materials and specimens for my 90+ students with my own money.

This seriously limits what I can afford to provide for my students to learn with.

My students deserve the same learning experiences as those students at wealthier schools, and I want to be able to offer them in my classroom. Many of my students come to me for meals, help with job applications and assistance with life-skills. I want to be able to make their science an engaging experience that allows them to thrive and grow so that they have opportunities open to them in the future.

My Project

My students struggle with visualizing and understanding how molecules form and break, and how energy is stored and transferred in their bonds. These models will allow students to manipulate the bonds and elements to see these concepts concretely.

Homeostasis is all around us and in our bodies, but my students have very little or no experience with identifying or recognizing it.

Blood pressure kits will allow them to observe their own body's responses to activities to regulate and maintain homeostasis.

Cellular transport is a difficult concept for students who have no experience with the microscopic world. These models will help my students move molecules in and out of a cell using transport proteins and the phospholipid bilayer in a concrete way.
