My Project

We're a small rural school, surrounded by farms, orchards, & woodlands. There's even a marsh adjacent to the school. It's a perfect setting for hands-on environmental science.

I am building this new course from scratch, with no starting materials.

I'm following the framework set by the national Envirothon competition so our major units are soils & land use, forestry, wildlife, & aquatic ecology. Our first small team will be going to the regional competition in March. It's all a learning experience!

Hands-on experience in environmental science will be useful for all my students, even the ones who don't go into agriculture or land management - Knowing the science behind the issues makes for more informed citizens.
