Hello from Kindergarten! I teach an amazing group of 5 and 6 year olds with a variety of needs. There are students in our class working on literacy goals that range from learning letters and sounds to emergent readers to more advanced readers. They are a sweet group of students not only learning a love of literacy but they are truly a class team. They genuinely support and care about one another. They inspire me daily to be a better teacher and hep them to succeed.
My goal is to use this project as an opportunity to meet them at their level support their learning in the classroom.
My Project
Our classroom has students with a variety of prior learning experiences. These materials will help them actively engage in storytelling by using communication skills as well as reinforce early reading skills by using the big books. Using the retell pieces and big books will make the stories come to life!
Our classroom readers will help transfer their storytelling knowledge to experience both fiction and non fiction texts in small group reading.
Finally, the legos provide a tactile way to bring in science, technology, engineering and math as they can problem solve to create a bridge for the Billy Goats to cross or retell other stories.
