My Project

I began working in this position as a science and social studies middle school teacher a few weeks ago, at nearly the end of the third quarter of the school year. I have never taught science, and so I have no great materials for my students to experience hands-on labs, which is what a science class should be heavily consisted of. We were able to recently borrow a few microscopes and slides to do some observations with, and the kids were fascinated! I would love to be able to provide more of these experiences; I feel like my students will likely remember hands-on, visual activities, versus paperwork. In my DonorsChoose project, I have requested several science lab-related items, such as slides, games, and resource books with experiment ideas.

I also teach World History, which for my 6th grade students includes ancient civilizations.

As a history nerd, I could talk about these subjects endlessly, but kids need visuals. In my DonorsChoose project, I have included classroom posters, a few teacher resource books containing topic-related projects, a few topic-related age-appropriate books, and some STEAM-related activities, where the students will be able to construct examples of ancient architecture.
