This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Hands-on prototyping equipment and organizational materials will play a critical role in enabling students to conduct empathy interviews within their community and transform these insights into actionable prototypes of change.
Developing Empathy Through Hands-On Prototyping
1. Seeing the World Through Another's Eyes:
- Empathy Interviews: Students will be equipped with tools and frameworks to conduct in-depth interviews with community members, focusing on understanding their experiences, challenges, and perspectives. This process requires active listening and genuine curiosity, allowing students to see the world from the interviewees’ point of view.
- Reflection and Analysis
2. Working Toward Alleviating Suffering:
- Problem Identification: Through empathy interviews, students will identify areas of need within the community. They will learn to frame these problems from the perspective of those affected, ensuring that their solutions are relevant and impactful.
- Prototyping Solutions: With access to prototyping equipment, students can quickly iterate on ideas and create tangible prototypes of their proposed solutions. (using design supplies such as glue, cups, sticky notes, sticks, ziplock bags and more). This hands-on approach allows them to test their ideas in real-world settings and gather feedback to refine their solutions.
- Collaboration and Feedback: Organizational materials (such as bins, pocket organizers, hanging folders all to get their space in the classroom where they can put some of the creative pieces in progress) will help students plan, execute, and track their projects. Collaboration tools enable them to work together, share insights, and provide constructive feedback. This collaborative environment fosters a collective effort toward alleviating suffering and improving community well-being.
3. Measuring Success
Reflection Journals online: Students document their learning and emotional growth. For this computer mice make the work smoother as chromebook trackpads can be clunky.
Peer and Self-Assessment: Regular reviews help gauge empathy and collaboration on the prototypes provides measurable impact data
