My students need micro:bit box kits to begin learning how to code using hands-on materials.

My Students

My students are from a low-income/high poverty district, they are faced with challenges in and outside of the classroom. Many of these students also have learning and emotional disabilities.

Despite the challenges they face and the views they may have of themselves, I know they are capable of incredible things.

They love to move in the classroom and have flexibility in the way they accomplish their work. When they come into my classroom the focus is on the potential they have, I work with them to solve and overcome. The world may be falling down around them at home, but when they enter my classroom I meet them with creativity and a positive outlook. If I can give them that at school, maybe I can reach those students who already believe it's too late.

My Project

The materials that I am requesting for my students will have a "home" in my Computer Science room. I have a curriculum ready to go we just need your help getting everything in the room! The students at our STEAM school will have the opportunity to experiment in a project based learning environment, micro:bits in the computer science room will help accomplish this! The hand-on skills that micro:bits will keep my third through sixth graders engaged during every "lesson".

The donations to this project will help to improve student understanding of the engineering and design process to give them real world experience at a young age.

By implementing these skills at a such a young age we are preparing them for a fast-paced, ever evolving world. The skills they will learn from utilizing the micro:bits will impact them for years to come. They will see how no matter their skill level they can do Computer Science!
