My Students

As a teacher, in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges, both in and out of the classroom.

My students are an amazing group of 3rd graders that are eager to learn and explore.

They are living a growth-mindset philosophy, embracing the new learning experiences and challenges, and are ready to stretch and grow their brain muscle. Children are like sponges, ready to soak up everything. It is my pleasure and duty to help shape their precious minds to love learning and be successful.

My Project

My goal is to always prepare my students for their futures and coding is one of the best experiences I can provide for them. Implementing Lego WeDo and Express Sets will allow students to think critically and work in teams. STEAM is a critically important education foundation for college and career bound students, yet rural districts do not receive the kind of support that urban areas do. According to a report by the Carnegie Science Center, students are better equipped with STEAM skills by engaging in science and math projects that are collaborative, hands-on and based on solving problems. “STEAM education does not just inspire future scientists but also elevate the prospects of rural students, who, without STEAM education, have fewer options.”

Coding will teach them to communicate, not only with each other, but with a computer.

The coding experience will require them to carefully and systematically work through complicated patterns of thinking. Students will be required to problem solve and think like inventors in order to move the Lego WeDo and Express Sets I am requesting, to any desired point. Their computer programming literacy will strengthen. They will gain confidence as 21st century citizens living and thriving in this digital era they so enjoy.
