My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything. I also want them to be prepared for the rigorous world ahead.
I teach at a Title I school in Las Vegas where many of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Unfortunately, most of my students have limited resources outside of school, so school is the place where my students experience enriching activities.

My Project
Insects! Terrifying to some. Disgusting to others. Amazing to few. Through exploration and observation, students can realize that insects aren’t something to be afraid of. My class will soon have the opportunity to learn about butterfly and ladybug life cycles and why they are an important part of nature.
Through this project students will have the opportunity to observe real life butterflies and ladybugs change and develop.
Then, to help give them a better understanding, I would like students to create a visual representation of a butterfly and ladybug life cycle. Students need modeling dough, butterflies, ladybugs, moss, leaves, flowers, and clear boxes to build the life cycle and habitat of a butterfly and a ladybug.
This hands-on experience is a great way for kids to gain a better appreciation of the characteristics of insects, how they survive, and how they are important to humans.
We will complete this project after we gain a basic understanding of the life cycles by watching real caterpillars and ladybugs grow and change. Insects are an essential part of our environment and through education and hands-on experiences, students can gain a sense of appreciation and care for insects.
