My Students

Students in our Biotechnology senior science elective explore a wide range of current applications of molecular biology.

Our students come from all walks of life and every zip code in the city.

Our school is a diverse amalgam of people who have all come together to learn. Our school follows a project-based and inquiry-driven model, which often requires students to ask their own questions, and then answer these questions. Our students, therefore, are very inquisitive, curious, and interested in learning about how the world around them works, and what their role is in the larger scheme of things.

My Project

Seniors in the Biotechnology class at Science Leadership Academy will use these materials to perform hands-on labs that will reinforce and apply the concepts being taught in class.

Using these labs, my students will perform cutting-edge biotech procedures.

They will learn to perform DNA extractions, restriction digests, gel electrophoresis, polymerase chain reaction, bacterial transformations, and more.

These labs will equip my students to succeed in rigorous STEM fields in college. And for those not going into STEM fields, the first-hand experience with these techniques will provide valuable knowledge in this increasingly important field.

Science Leadership Academy is a public high school in the school district of Philadelphia. We don't have the budget to provide these materials for our students. With your help, we'll be able to offer a state-of-the-art biotechnology experience!
