My Students
I am teaching high school students in a charter school in Yuma, Arizona. To develop the love and skills for science is my main goal as an educator. For the past years of my stay in this school, my students and I have developed and achieved a lot. These students are curious and love science.
These students have competed in different Science Fair Competitions and become SUCCESSFUL in spite of the lack of advanced scientific tools and equipment.
So far we have two students who competed for International Science and Engineering Fair. Thanks for help we get from our donors.
These students are very innovative and passionate about scientific discoveries. In our classroom, we used a lot of common household materials on performing our experiments. Through collaborative learning and efforts, the learning process in the classroom has always been meaningful and fun. I am so lucky to have these students and I am looking forward to another amazing school year with them!
My Project
I am requesting a hot plate with stirrer, volumetric flask set, and Erlenmeyer flasks for our experiment in macromolecules. One of the topics that we talk in my biology class every year is about Macromolecules. I believe it is very important for a biology student to distinguish and know the important biological functions of these macromolecules. However, for the past years, it has always been a lecture or simple experiment in my class whenever we discuss this topic.
Having this equipment and materials will be a great addition to my biology class.
We don't have an actual laboratory and we lack necessary tools and equipment to perform adequate experimentations. The majority of my students came from low income households. My goal is to let my students experience the beauty of science and STEM is my goal as an educator.
My students will use this hot plate with stirrer to heat up different substances such as egg whites, starches, oils, water, etc. This would enable my students to compare the different properties of various macromolecules. At the same time, there are lots of other biology experiments where we can use these materials. This school year, I am also planning to guide my students to create a research about bioplastics using plant (starches) and agar from invasive algae. Thus, having this tools will be a great tool in my class.
