Hands-On and Fun Developmental Learning

My students need to explore and create. The STEM Kit will let them explore forces hands-on. The Kinetic Sand and designer kit will help them develop fine motor skills.

My Students

I believe that students learn best when they discover things themselves. I work diligently to create opportunities for them to explore, learn, and share from first hand experiences like growing plants, or raising butterflies. I also believe that building and creating is critical to learning.

My class is a Transitional Kindergarten/Kindergarten split.

I have a wide range of students ethnically and ability wise, but they are friendly and our classroom is a true learning community. We have a number of students with special needs who are full blended into our class. We have non-native speakers who speak the most when engaged in play and exploration. My school is a traditional neighborhood school. Over 70% of our students qualify for free or reduced priced lunches. It is a positive environment for teachers, students, and parents.

My Project

My students will have consistent opportunities to express themselves artistically with the paints, and to build, mold, and create with the Kinetic Sand. When building and exploring the kinetic sand they will engage in activities that develop the requisite motor skills needed to write and cut. They tend to be highly verbal during explore time, which is critical for my language learners, but benefits all students. They are also learning to share and take turns. They will begin to learn about the effects of forces upon objects using the STEM Kit. They will work in teams to create ramps and explore the effects of push and pull upon rolling objects. They will be engaged, learn, and have a wonderful first experience in school. At the end of the day, students who are engaged and love school will fight through the challenges that may present themselves during their education.

Donations to my classroom will allow me to create centers which are completely hands-on.

My students will have the opportunity to build, create, explore, discuss what they create and apply their knowledge in physical ways. They will have a classroom in which guided play and other activities will allow for engaging and developmentally appropriate learning. It will change the way they can approach their learning and allow them more selection in the way they express what they learn.
