My Students

I have the pleasure of having such an amazing and diverse group of students. My students have been placed in a self-contained classroom for students labeled as having multiple disabilities. My students have disabilities that range from intellectual to physical disabilities, to other health impairments.

Some of the students require intensive, individualized, and frequent instruction to allow them to be as functional and independent within the community.

Some skills that are of the utmost importance are communication skills (having their own communication system), basic math skills (like number recognition), and basic literacy skills (like identifying letters or their names).

Most importantly, despite disabilities and being in a low-income area, they are great students. They are crazy, fun-loving, determined, and bright young minds. They make my day interesting and not one single day is the same. That's the life of a special education classroom, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

My Project

Math is a tough subject for most students. Making math fun, functional, and interactive is key for the students to develop and maintain math skills.

I want my kiddos having fun, interactive math activities to keep them engaged!

There are items on this project that will help with a variety of math lessons. My students have to learn shapes - so a fun sorting mat will help them with this. My students also have to know fractions - so doing it in pizza form makes it more fun (and functional) for them! My students also have to learn patterns, so having manipulatives will help them a lot.

Plus - there's a set of blow up globes for a little history lesson we have on the continents & oceans! :)
