This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach kindergarten to twenty-seven students. I work in a Title I school. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many students receive backpack food for the weekend. My students are from rural North Carolina. My students love coming to school. They are fed, nurtured, and loved. I try to meet the needs of the whole child. They want to learn so badly and they love to please. Many lack supplies at home and school is the only place they have to learn.
Yes, they come from low-income families, but I refuse to let that be a setback.
I provide engaging, creative, meaningful lessons so that they all experience success.
They can have a brighter future. They face the hardship of struggling in education. There is little parent involvement. My students have the desire to learn, and I want to be able to assist them to be able to read about those places they may not be able to visit.
My Project
These materials will help foster independence within my classroom. Students will be able to use these hands on materials to develop their learning. These items will help increase math and reading skills. It will also aid in social emotional awareness and help to build vocabulary. Using the materials in their daily center rotation will help build the foundation for future learning. Once students learn letters, sounds, and sight words they will begin to read. Once they learn numbers, they will begin to add and subtract and have the foundation for number sense. Once the students are aware of their feelings, they can meet their social and emotional needs.
