Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school where funding is low and resources are scarce. My students are a very diverse group of students with varying backgrounds. They also have a wide range of abilities which requires constant differentiation of instruction to reach them all. I work alongside some awesome English Language teachers and Exceptional Children's teachers in order for us all to come together and have the greatest impact on my students. It truly takes a village to teach and reach students.
Children need opportunities for real-life exploration and experimentation.
They crave authentic instruction and authentic learning. As their teacher, I am obligated and committed to providing them with as many opportunities as I can to learn via exploration.
My Project
The Hand-2-Mind Math Kit will support students in building math proficiency through hands-on manipulative objects and materials. It provides students with engaging math activities in which students are using items to discover math concepts.
When students are able to touch, move and manipulate objects it helps engage their minds and create connections!
My students learn best when they are authentically engaged in an activity.
The kit will give me teacher materials that will help plan more engaging math lessons, student activities and math manipulative items. When students are able to use real objects and have visual representations of numbers and ideas, it helps make math concepts more accessible and authentic.
