My Students

As the premier alternative school in the district, our school exists to serve the unique academic, physical, social and emotional needs of students who are in a critical period of their lives as they move from adolescence to adulthood. All aspects of the school help prepare our students for success in college and encourage them to become thoughtful and contributing members of society.

Winter is coming!

Our students need winter gloves to help them navigate the cold days walking to and from school or using public transportation. As one of the first staff members that see our students each morning, I have seen red hands and fingers because students did not have gloves on in 30 degree weather. Students complain of painful and burning fingers. Help me provide them with warmth and comfort while they travel to school.

My Project

Students will be less likely to skip school when they have the proper outer wear. They will begin each morning with warm and comfortable gloves. About 30 students will receive a pair of gloves. This small change will also help with improving each student’s attendance as they will be less likely to skip school if they feel they are properly dressed for the elements. No more waiting for the metro and/or buses and “freezing.” Lack of warm clothing will no longer be a barrier to attendance.

Gloves should not be a luxury.

Our students commute to school every day via public transportation and walking. There are no school buses to help protect them from the elements. Gloves and proper winter outer wear is essential to a comfortable journey to school.
