Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The Jewelry class at our school is an arts elective class that is being offered brand new this school year. The class has started with high numbers of students showing interest in the arts electives survey, but faced some challenges oat the start of the school year of not having the materials needed with supplies chain issues as well as other purchasing issues at the district level. Students create gems using dichroic glass, which is a type of art glass that display different colors depending on the lighting, students work to set and fuse to create various pendants and puddles. The wires and the tools for making wire jewelry will enhance jewelry art by making bands, bases, and findings to go with the fused glass pieces, or also on its own, making wearable art. Without wires and tools, students would only be able to make small pieces of fused glass, but not wearable jewelry pieces. I envisioned having a jewelry show with my students. Currently, my students post their work on an online platform called Artsonia, but a catwalk with models as in Dior's High Jewelry Show sounds even more amazing!
