This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are curious, intelligent, and love to explore new ways of creating artwork. Several students have been voluntarily coming in during their lunch/ recess to create their own art projects out of mostly recyclable materials, to spread words of encouragement throughout our school.
I have so many bright students from primarily low economic backgrounds just waiting for the chance to express themselves.
With your donations, I will be able to help these students fulfill their artistic aspirations while reaching various learning styles through an expansive, experimental art program in which they will not only learn the foundations of art-making but also the gift of creative, critical thinking skills that they will be able to use for their entire lives.
Artists of all ages use journals/sketchbooks to document their creative ideas, feelings, and sketches. With this project, my 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be able to create their very own personalized sketchbooks. This project will give students a designated place to track the growth of their artistic abilities, as well as a place to write art critiques and reflections.
Writing about art helps students to reflect and gain knowledge by using another method of learning to process new information.
Not only are sketchbooks great for students to experiment new artistic processes, it is also great when there is a substitute so they get to work quietly on something in their own private sketchbooks. Not to mention, the substitute doesn't have to collect a bunch of loose paper. Please, help my students to expand their learning potential by providing the funds needed to create sketchbooks.
