Handmade Paper Project

My students need this paper making equipment for various planned projects. We can create sketchbooks, our own paper for art projects.

My Students

The fun of teaching is getting to spark your students imaginations. Integrating disciplines is often the catalyst for this spark. This papermaking equipment would do just that. Integration of art, science and ecology would be right mix for my students.

My students love the idea of recycling anything.

They understand the importance of the concept of recycling and reuse. We have a "Green Team" at our school. They help with the recycling bins, and keep the campus free of refuse. They enjoy seeing what they can create from recycled materials.

My Project

All of the classrooms at our school have recycling bins. In art class, we have several. Paper is sorted by colors, white paper and poster board. I try to have students use scraps as much as possible, but the bins do fill up quickly. I know it is all being recycled, but why not use these scrap papers for special art projects?

With this paper making equipment, we could make our own paper for handmade sketchbooks, shaped objects to be used in mobiles, and I even have a lesson plan for seed infused paper shapes that can be planted and will produce flowers or vegetables.

I have done paper making many times with small groups, but when you are working with an entire class, you need more equipment than just a few coffee cans. Students for many years to come would take pride in making and using their own paper.
