My Project
I teach a fully self-contained special education classroom with 8th-grade students who have severe cognitive disabilities including autism, cerebral palsy and down-syndrome and require constant one-on-one instruction and support. These students range in academic ability from pre-k and nonverbal to 3rd grade in reading and math.
Due to their cognitive disabilities, my students are most engaged with hands-on learning so money to buy manipulative learning tools is essential for my students.
These tools include a mirror with matching emotion images so students can learn to self-identify their emotions, a science kit with a pump that students can use to build their own rocket launch pad, catapult, crane, or other crafts, an abacus tool for counting, an alphabet board that gives the sound of each letter, and more.
Students born with disabilities still deserve equitable access to education no matter the teaching tools required, and your donations would make a reality.
