My Students

I have a fun-filled class of 19 first graders. The best part of teaching first grade is that we never have a dull moment. From the second they arrive, we are on the go. Our classroom has science, math, reading, social studies, art, and positive attitudes.

Many of my students absolutely thrive in a creative environment.

I would love for them to have hands-on tools to experience and integrate the variety of subjects they learn about each day. The more engaged my students are the greater success they have and the more confidence they are able to build within themselves.

My Project

Each of the requested items has a specific use in our classroom but is versatile in a way that will allow the tools to be used beyond the intended purpose. The mirrors for example were meant to be used in our science curriculum as we explore light and sound, yet they can support students reading and speaking skills since they can be incorporated into our phonics block as students grasp how they create letter sounds with the shape of their mouths.

With hands-on learning experiences, students will feel excited to participate, they will be able to build strong relationships with their peers and rediscover the joy in learning after two years of interrupted learning.

My goal is to continue to create a student-centered classroom, where students know the value of their input and show up each day ready to participate in their learning. With the use of the poster boards, we can co-create anchor charts, students can create together as groups, and we can fill our walls with the knowledge we have gained together. With each of the games, we can continue to build our understanding of a topic while building stronger relationships with one another through teamwork and collaboration. With each book and science kit, we can build our understanding of the Utah state science standards for first grade.

I get the joy and honor of being in the classroom with each of these amazing students and I know that each of these tools will greatly benefit all learners from my multi-language learners to my advanced learners.
