My Students
I teach at an awesome school in an area of Los Angeles called Watts. I teach both Latino and African-American students, and all students receive free lunch because of their family income level. I am committed to working in this under-served area because these students need teachers that understand that their lives are less than ideal in many ways. However, my students can do anything and rise to the occasion when they feel confident and prepared with any task! My students live in a low income area and I want to make sure they have access to any and all materials to make their learning fun and rigorous.
My Project
Our next science unit is going to feature a culminating family project, focused on animal habitats. The students will use the books as information sources and for note taking about their habitat. I will read some of the books aloud and show them how to extract pertinent information. They will also have access to the mini library for research on their own.
I am really trying to make science fun and accessible for my students!
I know that many do not have Internet access, so this donation will provide a way for all students to access information. The culminating project will be a 3-D representation of animals in their natural habitat and will feature the animal's homes, food sources, plants, and predators. I can't wait to show you the finished projects.
