My Students
I am a first year Adapted Physical Education teacher for students with disabilities at an elementary school. My objective is to allow my students to become independent and learn new skills. Track and gymnastics seem to be fading out of most gymnasiums.
My students range from third-fifth grade and are very delightful.
They are energetic and love to participate in physical activities. They are fascinated by new equipment, and having a variety of visual or tactile equipment will benefit them in many ways.
We would like to thank you in advance again for any and all contributions; my students are excited about getting active.
My Project
The students will use the equipment to work on their gross and fine motor skills. This basically means they will be able to strengthen and control their body to become more proficient in sports and daily life skills. I have requested a long jump mat, trampoline, foam javelins, training ropes, a ball cart, hurdles, and foam mats.
Learning to perform different activities will help my students play outside of the school setting and even compete in events or competitions for the rest of their lives. For example, the javelin will help with eye-hand coordination when throwing/targeting. The mats will help students work on movement/gymnastic skills safely. The hurdles will help students work on eye-foot coordination along with body control. The long jump mat will not only help students improve in jumping from stationary positions, it will also prepare them for hurdles which also require jumping.
This project will allow my students not only to learn skill sets to improve their body control, it will allow them to see two sports that are not commonly taught in gymnasiums these days.
We would be very grateful for any donation to this project. Additional equipment to our physical education program will put a smile on my students' faces and will help them enjoy new activities. Thank you!
