The sensory tools have helped create a calmer, more inclusive learning environment where everyone can focus, express themselves, and feel supported.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your generosity and kindness. For my students with Autism and Intellectual Disabilities, these devices have opened up new and exciting ways to learn. Technology that many people use every day is truly transformational here—it's helping my students engage with reading, build communication skills, and become more confident learners.\r\n\r\nFrom the moment we unboxed the iPads, the excitement was undeniable. One of my students who rarely initiates academic tasks eagerly tapped into a phonics app and began identifying letter sounds with a huge smile on his face. For many of my students, traditional books and paper-based tasks can be frustrating—but with a touchscreen and interactive apps, they're staying focused longer, participating more actively, and feeling proud of their progress. The iPads also allow us to use text-to-speech and communication apps that support students who are nonverbal or have limited language skills, helping them find their voice in ways that were previously out of reach.\r\n\r\nOne student in particular has truly blossomed. He struggled to sit through reading lessons before, but now asks to \"read\" every morning using his favorite app, which turns stories into interactive experiences. The ability to customize each iPad with the right tools for each learner means every student can work at their own pace, in their own way—and that's been incredibly empowering.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, we're seeing more engagement, more joy, and more meaningful progress every day. You've helped create a classroom where all students feel seen, supported, and capable of achieving great things. We are beyond grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1753611560767,"projectUrl":"project/turning-pages-and-possibilities-ipads-f/9496390/","projectTitle":"Turning Pages and Possibilities: iPads for Special Education","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hannah","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10091801"},{"teacherId":10091801,"projectId":9506043,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom! The art supplies you helped fund have already made a meaningful difference for my students with special needs. As soon as the materials arrived, their excitement was contagious. One student said, \"We have real art stuff now!\"—and that joy has carried into every project we've done since.\r\n\r\nWe've already used the paints and paper plates for two hands-on lessons. In one project, students created a world map using paint and paper plates, labeling the continents and oceans. This integrated geography lesson helped them connect art with social studies in a fun, memorable way. We also explored identity by creating self-portraits using the wide variety of skin tone paints. Students were thrilled to find colors that matched their own skin, and they took great pride in painting themselves with accuracy and care. For many of them, this was the first time they saw materials that truly represented them.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we plan to continue using these supplies to support both academic lessons and social-emotional learning. Our next project will explore storytelling through visual art, where students will paint scenes from a book we're reading together. These resources are helping us create an inclusive and creative space where every student feels valued and empowered to express themselves. Thank you for being part of this journey with us—you've brought more color, confidence, and creativity into our classroom!","fullyFundedDate":1753710476780,"projectUrl":"project/art-supplies-for-success/9506043/","projectTitle":"Art Supplies for Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hannah","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10091801"},{"teacherId":5826910,"projectId":8736517,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donations and making our therapy room glow up a reality. We never would have been able to afford a piece of therapeutic equipment like a swing any other way. Our students love getting packages and opening them, and had been anticipating its arrival since we told them the swing was coming. When they saw the swing put together in the therapy room, they were so excited to try it. It has had such an impact on our student's motivation to do work in the therapy room. It has also been such a great calming tool for those who need it to regulate themselves before returning to the classroom to learn. They have been motivated to do activities both seated and on their stomach improving their strength and working on letter/number recognition and handwriting. They enjoy spinning and rocking on the platform swing. The hammock swing has been a favorite for students to curl up in for a sensory break. The laughter and joy on the student's faces while using the swing during the school day has been so heartwarming.","fullyFundedDate":1734189378696,"projectUrl":"project/keep-calm-and-swing-on/8736517/","projectTitle":"Keep Calm and Swing On","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Valle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5826910_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1544064535477","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/daniellevalledpt"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_18792","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":89,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":49,"percentWhite":20,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":19,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"US Census Data for the surrounding geographic area","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"Census ZCTA","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":62.3,"schoolId":18792,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about PS226 @ PS185 on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"PS226 @ PS185","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/district-75-city-wide-programs/ps226-ps208/18792"}
