My Students
Our inner-city school is comprised of over 650 students in grades Pre-K-5. More than 33% of our students have special needs. The majority of our students receive free lunch. My students have come from all around the world, from many different and often difficult situations. They hold the American Dream but need the tools to make them successful. Their challenges go beyond the educational setting. We look to inspire our students to chase their dreams. Each student hopes to improve through mind, spirit, and body. Although my students face many obstacles, I have always felt that my gymnasium classroom has been a sports sanctuary. Students feel at home and look forward to each class period.
My Project
Social distancing is critically important in the gymnasium at this time. Students are encouraged to work on their physical fitness skills. The pandemic has made many people rather sedentary. The addition of these mats will motivate all of my students to get in better shape and challenge themselves at the same time.
Some of the activities that we will work on are curl-ups/sit-ups and push-ups to combat the physical damage the pandemic has done to so many.
The addition of these mats will create a safe environment for our students. These mats will. also. prevent potential injuries. Safety is truly number one, and of the utmost concern.
