My Students

Every morning our student body begins their day by reciting our school's inspirational message: We are a community of learners. We will do whatever it takes to learn. We are building a strong foundation by believing we can, working our plan, then feeling the power of SUCCESS!

Our school is a charter school located in Saint George, Utah.

A charter school is a public school designed by the needs of the members of the community. Our curriculum exposes our students to approximately 30% more content than traditional public schools. Charter schools are federally funded just like schools belonging to a public district; unfortunately, we do not receive as much funding as a district, nor do we receive technology grants to provide additional resources to our students such as iPads, interactive whiteboards, or even basic computer labs. Due to the absence of this funding, parents and students alike must put exponential amounts of extra effort into their academic studies. Despite our resourceful setbacks we were named Utah's Charter School of the Year 2013. Our students have achieved exceptionally high marks on the year-end state testing, scoring in the top 5%. Imagine the academic possibilities of success if we were able to acquire more resources for our students.

My Project

We will begin our school's journey of resourceful expansion by requesting two ChromeBooks for every classroom. Science, math, and technology should be utilized in conjunction with one another in order to assist students with identifying the relationships and cycles of knowledge. Deductive and critical reasoning are key cornerstones to knowledge and paves the way for students to maintain their abilities to problem solve. Currently, we utilize hands-on labs, bookwork, video tutorial, and written skills. With the introduction of technology, the students will be able to conduct online research, complete virtual labs, develop flow charts, populate Excel worksheets, and implement graphing. Each of these skills will be included in every unit of academia, and the availability of laptops will provide these tools to the students on a daily basis. The access of these tools will provide our students with the exposure necessary to succeed in their future careers.

The implementation of technology in the classroom will expand the tools available to my students and myself.

With my main focus of developing the students' critical thinking skills, the access to technology literally provides us with endless resources. These resources provide us with daily opportunities to think through problems in real-world settings.
