Guitars Needed for Eager 6th Grade Students

My Students

Every day brings challenges to the 6th grade students in my music classroom. Home life can be difficult, since most of them live under or at the poverty level. The district does the best it can to provide an education, but musical instruments are not provided. They need your help.

My very musical 6th grade students come from 17 different countries and speak 17 or more languages.

For many of them, school is very challenging, and learning to play music can be a welcome relief. In music class, they build self-esteem and celebrate their musicality, their culture, and their beautiful singing voices. Unfortunately, the guitar "kit" they have been using has reached the end of the line, and the guitars are not able to be repaired. These children deserve quality instruments.

My Project

The students just received 10 acoustic guitar through DonorsChoose.org, so these next 10 guitars will enable my students to use a guitar throughout the class instead of having to share. The students are eager to learn, and they deserve to have fine quality instruments. The students will handle the instruments with care. They will begin singing folk songs and multicultural songs as soon as they learn a few chords. So much learning is ahead!

Once the 6th graders have learned how to play the guitar, they can begin to compose their own songs and make stronger connections to the music curriculum.

Once they master a few chords, it will be incredible to watch them grow musically.
