Guitars For Kids Who Don't Like Band!

My students need 4 acoustic guitars (the brand Rogue offers guitars extremely inexpensively).

Guitar lessons are expensive and never offered in a public school setting. It's hard to learn, and this is coming from a self-taught guitarist! I teach 7th grade science in the worst performing middle school in my district. We are on almost 90% free/reduced lunch for students, and have more than a few homeless students to teach. Band is the only music opportunity for kids to explore, and guitar would be a great alternative for after-school enrichment.

When I mentioned the possibility of teaching guitar to the kids, I saw the excitement in their faces. A lot of these kids can't even afford lunch, let alone a guitar OR lessons to learn, and I would love to teach them with your help!

I need 4 acoustic guitars (to start). I already have 2 that I can use and the students can use, but this is not enough. I hope to teach lessons 2 to 3 times a week after school and also teach grammar and literature through songs and songwriting to the kids. In any manner, this would be a once in a lifetime (literally) opportunity for these kids.

Your contribution to buy these musical instruments will provide the basis for these students to express themselves through songwriting and playing music! I will record tracks with the students and give them their own Cd's to take home, but none of this can happen without your help. Wouldn't you like to be responsible for helping with the next Jimi Hendrix to break into the music scene?
