This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at the tip of Texas, bordering Mexico, where my students speak Spanglish. They face many challenges such as dyslexia, special needs, and are socioeconomically disadvantaged, but that doesn't stop them from dreaming big.
They are determined, hard-working children, willing to learn no matter their circumstances.
I teach second-grade, bilingual students who inspire me on a daily basis. These students come every day excited to start class. They enjoy hands-on activities, crafts, group activities, and especially working with technology. They face many challenges, but they don't let these challenges take over their learning experience.
Many come without knowing English, but with their determination and support from their families, they are able to conquer everything. Many students are economically disadvantaged. However, none of those factors affect these children because they want to learn. It is very satisfying seeing all these children progress throughout the school year.
I work at a very supportive school where students come first. We are all about meeting our children's needs. Our administrators have created a safe, happy environment for everyone at our school: students, staff, teachers, and parents. I love working at the very tip of Texas where my students are very unique and wonderful.
My Project
Helping care for a furry animal can be a fun and exciting experience for any school child. But did you know that having a class pet has real educational, leadership, and character-building values?
Moreover, a class pet can teach children important values such as compassion, empathy, respect, and responsibility to other living things, as much as give them much-needing leadership skills and stress relief.
Students will learn that taking care of a pet is serious work. With this new cage, students will become aware that animals need attention and compassion. That way "Sergeanta", our guinea pig class pet, will have a variety of choices to improve her lifestyle. Students will have a classroom job that will allow them to feed Sergeanta Regina every day. This classroom job will make students more responsible in taking care of an animal. They will understand that animals have needs and that they can fulfill these needs through feeding and keeping their cage clean. They will learn animals need a comfortable place with the use of the guinea pig hut. Through this project, I want to make my students aware of their surroundings. The main purpose is for them to care for life around them, no matter how small.
