My students need magnetic letters and sight word blocks so everyone has their own set while working with me in small groups to help them create, spell, and read words and short sentences. We also need folder games.

My Students
I have 25 Kindergarten students in my classroom. Of those 25 students, 15 speak English as their second language. I was nervous to begin the year not knowing the full extent of their language abilities. What do they know in English beginning school? Will they be able to communicate with me? Most of all how am I going to help all of my students grow?! After two weeks of getting to know everyone, I knew this would be a great year. I have never had a harder working group of 5 and 6-year-olds. They surprised me and continue to show me each day they are eager and excited to learn and have been making great progress in the classroom.
My Project
My students have worked hard for 4 months to learn their letters and letter sounds. Now we are ready to blend the sounds together and begin reading. I want to start guided reading groups to work with students who are at similar levels. With the magnetic letters and letter activity dice, I can help my students create words and have them use the letters to put a visual to the sounds they are hearing. Having these supplies available for everyone allows me more time to instruct instead of waiting for students to share and pass materials around. I will be able to focus more on my job to guide them during guided reading instruction. The self-checking folder games are great for students to use during independent work time to focus on skills that we work on in small group.
