This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a special education teacher who works with students across various grade levels. We just found out that our school year will start remotely and my students need resources to help support this mode of learning.

Students, regardless of their cultural background, where they live, or which school they attend, should be given access to the resources needed to make learning a success.

I work in a school with a very high low-income student population in Chicago, Illinois. Many of my students have very limited resources available to them and I am constantly seeking ways to compensate for this by giving them access to the tools that they need to make their learning productive and successful.

My Project

Transitioning to remote learning has been a challenge for students, parents, and teachers. In many cases, students and teachers do not have the necessary tools and resources at home in order for them to fully teach, attend, and engage in distance learning. Often times, the materials needed are technology-based and because of the cost, educators and families are not able to acquire them independently. This is where YOU come in.

With your donation, you can help provide me with a Wacom Drawing Tablet that can be used to support remote teaching and learning.

With this tool, I can model and solve math problems for students by writing directly on the tablet so that what I write is displayed on the screen that I am presenting to students in real-time. Currently, when students need help with a math problem, I am guiding them through the steps to solve it using spoken words or typing to explain things. Students need visual cues and guides that go beyond watching videos and tutorials. They need a teacher actually guiding them through the steps of solving a math problem where the steps are written in conjunction with an oral explanation. This is a critical aspect of instruction that has been missing. Students need immediate feedback and guidance that this teaching tool will provide-please make this happen!
