This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have nine middle school students in grades six through eight. My students come to school each day full of energy and ready to learn. They inspire me every day to be a role model and give them my best. This year, we have learned so much and I know that they will continue to amaze me throughout this school year.
As an educator, my goal is to provide them with the best education possible; however, the truth is, my students teach me so much more than I could ever hope to teach them.
My Project
My students struggle with reading and need leveled guided reading books to help them build confidence and read fluently. The books are colorful and engaging which will help the students stay on task and gain much needed practice. In my life skills classroom, student use a whole word language approach to master reading skills. These leveled readers will give my students consistent and repetitive practice with materials that are adapted to meet a variety of learning needs.
These readers will allow me to give my students guided reading lessons that can be reinforced at home while reading with their parents or guardians.
As a special education teacher, one of my goals is to make the students become as independent as possible. I want to show the students that literacy at any age is achievable. Giving students who have missed the fundamentals of reading will allow them more opportunities and better life outcomes.
