My Students
Some of my students think reading is just about getting the words right. They are still learning what it means to make that "movie in their mind".
My students come from a variety of educational and socioeconomic backgrounds, and from locations all over the world.
Many are still learning to speak English, and so they have difficulty reading at the instructional levels that are expected for first grade. They need a great deal of independent practice, individualized and small group instruction.
My Project
My students need books at different instructional levels such as Book Guided Reading Level F to improve their reading comprehension. Each day our class has reading workshop. We spend time listening to books being read aloud by the teacher, shared choral reading, and independent reading practice. During this part of the day I work with small groups of students at their instructional reading levels- where they can read with help, but not yet on their own. These books will allow me to work with more students, and help them reach their independent reading goals.
My students strive to do their best in all subject areas.
Reading is a skill that is required for all they do. With these books they will be able to receive individualized and small group instruction.
