My students are an amazing group of diverse learners in Portland, Maine. We have students from all economic circumstances; many of whom are English Language Learners. We are in an urban environment located on the coast of Maine.
Students at our school need rich learning opportunities, facilitated by knowing teachers.
Due to the various backgrounds of our student body, we are in need of materials and tools to narrow the experiential gap of our students especially those tools which strengthen language development. Our school is an important part of our local community and strengthening our community connection is a priority.
My Project
My students need new fiction guided reading books. These books will be used during guided reading and independent reading so that students can reinforce all the skills they are working on mastering. These books will be used to teach character traits and changes that a character makes throughout a story. Students will also use these books to increase their reading fluency.
High quality fiction guided reading books are so useful for the students in my classroom.
Students need to be able to read these books during guided reading and then be able to take a copy to reread many times. If there are not enough copies of books, then the students are not able to independently read these books. Thank you for considering my project.
