“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.” ― Charles William Eliot.
We want to create a fun and engaging guided reading environment!
As an ELL teacher, I have a diverse group of students from many linguistic backgrounds. There are 20 different language groups in my school. My classroom of fourth grade ELL students come from countries such as Mexico, Algeria, Nepal, and Cambodia. For many of my students, this is their first experience with English. In my school of over 500 students, almost 50% of the students are English Language Learners. Many of my students are new to the country. It is my job to build their social and academic language skills. Many students come to my classroom with limited formal education.
My ESOL students come to school every day ready to learn and explore new ideas and concepts. This year, I am co-teaching with three fourth grade classrooms. My ESOL students need the text Understanding Texts & Readers and cardstock paper in colors such as Stardust White and Vulcan Green with loose leaf rings to create literacy resources for guided reading! The book Understanding Texts & Readers will be used to support comprehension skills during guided reading in our classrooms. My students will use the colored cardstock paper to print comprehension and reading materials for small group work. My students will have literacy games that they can use to work with their table partners. We will be able to create fun and engaging resources for guided reading!
Your donation to this project will provide my ESOL students with fun and engaging literacy materials for guided reading!
