This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a 3rd year teacher at a Title I school. I teach first grade to twenty-five amazing, challenging, intelligent, deserving students. These scholars receive breakfast, lunch, and sometimes dinner at school. Our school is a stable, supportive house of learning in what can be an often violent and unstable neighborhood.
Our school community truly comes together to support the development of the whole child.
We believe each child has enormous potential and deserves the world. Our curriculum is rigorous but the students are up to the challenge and set high goals for themselves. The pride they take in their successes is amazing to see.
My Project
I am requesting leveled book packs for guided reading during Reader's Workshop. During this time I work with a group as they read through a text at their level focusing on decoding, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.
These books will help the scholars work at their instructional level as they push themselves to reach their high instructional goals.
First grade is a year of growth as students are expected to grow from a level D to a level J. These books are of high interest and will keep my students engaged and excited about reading a new book each day.
