My Students

I have a wonderful group of first grade students who love to learn new things every day.

My students face many personal struggles yet come to school every day eager and ready to learn.

They know that our room is a safe, loving, and nurturing environment where we can have discussions, disagreements, and problem solve as a team!

All of my students plan to attend college in the future. We frequently talk about the path we need to follow over the course of the next 12 school years in order to reach our college goals. Some of my students expressed their interest in having careers as judges, nurses, game designers, and firefighters.

My Project

My scholars have just begun their exciting journey to becoming lifelong readers. Improving our classroom selection of engaging and colorful leveled texts will enhance this journey. We will use these leveled readers during small group Guided Reading instructional time to teach and practice new word decoding skills, build a schema and become more fluent readers.

It is important that my students have a large variety of books to read that will meet their individual needs for success, as well as their needs for challenge.

Our learning community will also incorporate these books into our classroom library to provide on-level texts for our students during independent reading time. These leveled readers will provide opportunities for our students to strengthen their self-reliance and endurance as readers. We are so hungry for more literature!
