I am very privileged to have the opportunity to work with 18 curious and adventurous students. My students are a diverse group of second-graders in a public elementary school. Students come from a range of socioeconomic, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds and have a wide range of learning needs.
My students are reading at a wide range of reading levels and and need instruction in both fiction and nonfiction in small guided reading groups.
Our school has made the decision to focus on reading and we all teach reading at the same time each week. We work together to share students so that all of our student's needs are met.
These high-quality books will be used for guided reading in a small group setting. The advantage of this set of books is that the books are both fiction and nonfiction texts written at a wide range of levels and are engaging for second-grade readers.
These books will allow me to focus my guided reading instruction on building reading comprehension skills, fluency, and accuracy, as well as vocabulary.
Having these books in the classroom will make a big difference for me and my students. Having a set of these books will allow students to bring home these books on a daily basis to practice their reading.
