“We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.” – David Warlick
I teach in an urban area where over 85% of students receive free or reduced price lunch.
We are in an area that has been listed as high poverty. My students, despite economic disadvantages, come to school daily eager to learn. The passion my students have to increase their reading and math skills is amazing. If we had laptops, I know that they would achieve their goals of becoming more proficient in reading and math. Every day my students are striving to improve their comprehension skills. Exposing them to literature through technology will aid them in their journey to better their skills. The donations toward this project will greatly improve reading engagement, math skills, and literacy in our classroom.
My students will be able to foster a love and understanding for mathematics through exploration with suggested grade level materials. This project includes a host of items to develop their math skills such as place value blocks, clocks, hands on fraction tools, protractors, and base ten blocks. The students will concretely build models to solve questions.
My students' conceptual understanding will benefit tremendously from having these resources.
They will have the opportunity to practice skills with specific tools and materials to aid in their overall understanding.
Fostering math skills is important to build the futures next mathematicians, scientist, and engineers of the future.
