This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I currently teach first grade in a Title I school on the Northwest side of Chicago. One of my strongest passions being a primary teacher is providing my students with a love of learning that will transcend their entire lifetime. In order for students to be successful in school, I believe they need to be engaged in learning. In my classroom, students are exposed daily to a variety of multi-sensory mathematical activities from tablets with math games, flashcards, math games, math picture books, and practicing mathematical concepts with manipulatives, play-doh, stamps, and wiki sticks. However, due to budget cuts it is difficult to provide these items for my students.
My Project
My students need engaging math centers to help make learning fun and exciting in the classroom. I believe students learn best when they are having fun. So many students are visual and kinesthetic learners and benefit from having hands on materials, especially in math. Providing students with their own number lines and white boards is a wonderful way to build upon number sense. Using a 120's Chart is a wonderful visualization to help students understand number knowledge.
Math centers are an engaging way to teach mathematical concepts in a fun and exciting way.
Students will have a great time using the supplies to learn addition, subtraction, place value, number sense and so much more!
